Committees

Committee on Spatial Planning and the Environment

Tackles the urgent problem of climate change and its regional consequences. Extreme weather is becoming more frequent and calls for effective measures. The committee pushes for more greenery and parks in cities and for better transport infrastructure with an emphasis on greener options, while balancing economic costs against environmental benefits.

Committee on Health and Healthcare

Works on improving the prevention of diseases and addictions that put growing pressure on the health system. Members look at ways to raise health awareness: campaigns for healthy lifestyles, addiction prevention and vaccination. They debate investment in prevention that could cut the long-term cost of treating chronic illness. The goal is a plan that keeps healthcare sustainable.

Committee on Cultural Development

Looks at how to preserve and develop cultural heritage for future generations, with a focus on tourism. It weighs investment in restoring monuments against festivals, concerts and other events that attract visitors, and debates whether culture should be publicly funded or rely on alternative sources.

Committee on Social Affairs

Focuses on homelessness, which is becoming an acute social problem. How can homeless people be helped effectively? Should the state offer them special benefits, or impose restrictions? The committee looks for ways to improve access to housing, healthcare and work, how to fund them, and what impact they would have on society.

Committee on Education and Youth

Faces the question of how to divide education funding. How much should go to grammar schools (gymnáziá) and how much to vocational schools? Secondary schools should prepare students better for the job market, but it is not clear which kind of support delivers better results.

Ideologies

  • Traditional left

Stands for social equality and the protection of workers, and supports redistribution and the welfare state. It builds on established forms of social justice and economic solidarity.

  • Progressive left

Stands for social justice, equal opportunities and an active role for the region in tackling social and environmental problems. It supports investment in public services, green solutions and innovation, and is open to social change and to modernising regional traditions.

  • Progressive right

Stands for economic liberalism and a free market, and promotes modern innovation, technological progress and some social reforms. It combines right-wing economics with openness to change in society.

  • Traditional right

Stands for individual responsibility, a free market and preserving regional traditions. It protects traditional social structures, but opposes strong involvement of the regions in the economy.
